THE MORE VARIETY, THE BETTER SOCIETY

Mihai Viteazul National College is a high school teaching in Romanian language and one of the largest high schools in Covasna county. Our school is structured on three levels of education: Primary, secondary and high school (for students aged 14-18). There are a total of 1085 students and 70 teachers. The subjects taught at school are Mathematics, ICT, Biology, Chemistry,
Physics, Philology, English, Humanities, and Pedagogical Guidance, etc. Teachers are very well equipped at teaching their professions. The percentage of admissions in higher education is over 90% each year. Currently, our school is the leading school of the secondary schools at the county level in terms of the results obtained by students in national examinations and assessments organized by the National Ministry of Education.

80% of our students live in urban areas while 20% of them are from the countryside, mainly villages belonging to the outskirts of our town. 10% of the students are immigrants coming from ethnically mixed families. As we live in a multiethnic community including Romanians and Hungarians, it gives us the opportunity to experience a mixed type of educational curriculum. There are a lot of extracurricular and volunteering activities for minority students to increase their integration into the school. Our motivation for this project is to share our experience of living in a multiethnic and multicultural community and to find out examples of good practices from our partners for better integration of our students belonging in the community.

The project team has important skills and experience in this field of national and international projects. Two of them are history teachers and they attended many seminars in our country and abroad on the topic of interculturality and teach courses related to this topic. One of the key persons coordinated 2 projects; one is in our school and the other is a national project about entrepreneurship. The other is the deputy headmistress. Before her appointment, she coordinated many national and international projects, like Comenius and other projects about entrepreneurship. She coordinated the international project Euroscola, and our school won first place and took part in EVY days in Strasbourg in 2017. Another member of the project team is the headmistress. She has good skills in management and entrepreneurship and will coordinate the implementation of the project. If any of the key persons leave the appointment for health or any other reasons, the director of the institution will appoint the other colleagues with the same qualifications that the project needs.
